Review

Course
The course was wide-ranging and covered a lot of areas. Certain subjects have lab tests and continuous assessments but most were examined at the end of the semester. Leaving cert subjects like Technical Drawing, Construction and Physics/Chemistry are a big help for 1st year but the course gets more difficult in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year.
Lectures
Most of the lecturers are very good and well prepared. The exams are usually based on what is talked about in the lectures and there aren't too many surprises. Most of the course notes are uploaded to Blackboard. There are a lot of hours and early starts!
Career Opportunities
The class finished college in 2010 and the economy was in a deep recession. This meant career opportunities were limited in the construction sector in Ireland. However some people were able to find jobs, others found jobs abroad and some people continued with further studies. A lot of people choose careers in different areas such as accounting and manufacturing so the degree gives plenty of opportunities. Alongside engineering subjects there are other classes (business, computing, mathematics & statistics) that give students knowledge in a wide range of areas.
Overall Comments
The course gives students a wide range of knowledge and sets them up well for a career in engineering and many other sectors.
